CRANIOSACRAL THERAPY
"Our bodies are our gardens - our wills are our gardeners."
~ William Shakespeare |
The craniosacral system is responsible for producing and managing the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) in which the brain and nervous system live, develop and function.
The system self-regulates by alternately producing and re-absorbing CSF.
Under normal conditions, these amazing "hydraulics" prevent a potentially dangerous build-up of fluid pressure around the brain and central nervous system.
If, however, your body experiences stress or trauma - whether recent or cumulative - pressure within the craniosacral system may rise or fluctuate beyond manageable levels.
This can play havoc with the central nervous system causing all manner of discomfort and ill health.
Craniosacral Therapy actually began with a better understanding of our cranial sutures and how they move.
In the beginning, conventional wisdom taught that cranial (skull) bones moved freely in infants but gradually fused together in adulthood.
We now know movement within the cranial sutures and the associated membranes of the brain occurs continuously throughout our lifetime.
We also know that cranial related dysfunction is frequently the result of trauma, stress, and disease.
Properly applied by progressive practitioners, Craniosacral Therapy helps restore a natural balance to the entire body.
Experienced hands coax a non-invasive release of tension, induce a state of relaxation, relieve pain, and allow the body's natural mechanisms to assist in the healing process.
Craniosacral Therapy is often used in concert with Visceral Manipulation, Peripheral Nerve Release, and other commonly applied orthopaedic procedures.
Jean-Pierre Barral, the world's leading authority on Visceral Manipulation, has produced a training program dedicated specifically to the central nervous system. We believe techniques like these are fundamental to the maintenance of overall good health.
